The Falkland Islands Public Accounts Committee has a new Chair, Nadia Knight. Nadia is joined by new Lay Member, Owen Betts and new MLA member Leona Roberts.
Nadia replaced the outgoing Chair, Dr Andrea Clausen, following her recent appointment as the new Falkland Islands Government Director of Natural Resources.
Nadia has been a Lay Member of the PAC for the last two years and has represented the PAC at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Overseas Territories Project Oversight of Public Finances Forum in Miami earlier in 2019. In addition she was a major contributor to the PAC Training Workshop run in the Falklands by the CPA in June 2019.
Speaking of her appointment, Nadia Knight stated:
“The Falkland Islands PAC is becoming increasingly active and it is important for us, as members of the PAC, to explore how we can expose a wider cross section of society to the functions and remit of the Committee. The training we have had from the CPA has increased our capacity to provide sound governance and oversight for the people of the Falkland Islands into the spending of public funds and I look forward to continuing this good work.
“We are grateful to Dr Andrea Clausen and MLA Mark Pollard for their commitment to the work of the PAC.”
PACs are a crucial aspect of public life in giving accountability for how taxpayer’s money is spent and members of PACs are uniquely placed to represent their communities and ensure they are getting value for money. The Falkland Islands PAC is made up of three Lay Members and two MLAs and is provided for in the Constitution and under the Public Accounts Committee Ordinance 2009
